"The
LORD is good unto them that
wait for him,
to the soul that seeketh
him.
It is good that a man
should both hope and quietly wait
for the salvation of the LORD.
It is good for a man that he bear
the yoke in his youth.
He sitteth alone and keepeth silence,
because he hath borne it
upon him.
He putteth his mouth in the dust;
if so be there may be hope."
Lamentations 3:25-29
The Sound of Silence
Sometimes no
answer is an answer!
When Herod
asked Jesus question after question,
Jesus said
nothing.
When Pilate
asked Jesus where He was from,
Jesus gave no
answer.
To some, Jesus
gave absolutely no response.
In Matthew
Chapter 11 when John the Baptist
was in prison,
he sent his disciples
to ask Jesus if
He was the Messiah,
and Jesus told
them,
"Go
and show John again those things
which ye
do hear and see:
The blind
receive their sight,
and the
lame walk,
the
lepers are cleansed,
and the
deaf hear,
the dead
are raised up,
and the
poor have the gospel preached to them.
And blessed is he,
whosoever shall not
be
offended in me."
Others received
a response also,
but not the one
they were after:
Zechariah said
to the angel:
"Whereby
shall I know this?
for I am an old man, and my wife well
stricken in years.
And the angel answering said unto him,
I am Gabriel, that stand in the
presence of God;
and am sent to speak unto thee and
to show thee these glad tidings.
And, behold, thou shalt be dumb,
and not able to speak,
until the day that these things shall
be performed,
because thou believest not my words,
which shall be fulfilled in their season."
Just because
God seems silent at times
doesn't mean He
isn't working.
Sometimes
silence is "golden".
And the silence
of God might just be speaking volumes!
"And
therefore will the LORD wait,
that he may be gracious unto you,
and therefore will he be exalted,
that he may have mercy upon you:
for the LORD is a God of
judgment:
blessed are all they that
wait for him."
