"As we have
therefore opportunity,
let us do
good unto all men,
especially
unto them who are of the household of faith."
Galatians 6:10
Rivalry in God's Family
Yesterday evening I
filled up my hummingbird feeder, and then sat out on
the back deck to enjoy nature's surroundings a little
before getting ready for work. I watched the
hummingbird's swoop to and fro
to enjoy the fresh sugar
water I had placed in the feeder.
But I noticed one in
particular little rascal.
She was determined to
chase off the rest of them. She sat on my clothes line
and actually swooped down and ran off any and all who
tried to drink from it. While the chase is on, others
sneak a sip or two, only to be driven off!
Rather amazing to watch
this act of rivalry
among such little
creatures.
This action puts to mind
an example of grace.
I purchased the feeder,
and supply the sugar water. The birds did not earn it
~ they receive it.
Yet they fight over who
may enjoy it!
How like the people of
God!
All we have or are that
is worthwhile is the gift
of God's pure grace. And
yet many are proud, self-centered, envious, and
quarrelsome.
Often Christian's fight
over God's good gifts
rather than expressing
their gratitude in
humility and sharing
what they have been given with others.
Just as I am confronted
with rivalry in my yard,
I imagine God is
confronted daily with rivalry in His.
