"Whereas ye know not
what shall be
on the morrow.
For what is
your life?
It is even a vapor,
that appeareth
for a little time, and
then vanisheth away.
For that ye ought to
say,
If the Lord will, we
shall live,
and do this or that."
James 4:14-15
If The Lord Will
Does the phrase,
"the good Lord willing"
play a part
in your
daily or future
planning?
If it doesn't, it needs
to.
James notes that
even we Christians are tempted to
make plans without
considering the will of God. He
reminds us that we who live under a
loving God depend on His good
pleasure.
As we make plans
for our future, we must seek
guidance and direction from
Him. And when we add, "If the Lord
wills," we are doing much
more than tacking on a pious phrase.
Those words express our
willingness to alter or abandon our
plans in favor of God's
design.
Life brings
disappointments and questions:
What was wrong
with my plan?
Because we know
the Master Planner, we can accept
His ways for us. To all
our dreams and wishes and prayers we
can add,
"If the Lord
wills."
Because the God who
sacrificed His own Son to redeem us,
will not let us down!
May God bless you
as you trust in His good
and gracious will for your life.
